Law for Professional Engineers

Lecturer:  Harry L Bird, P.E.

The goal of this course is to review and examine the laws which govern the practice of Professional Engineering in New York.  Beginning with the New York State Education Law, we will cover all the sections which are applicable to PEs.  We will examine such provisions as the requirements for records retention, Engineer-community relations, Engineer-client relations, obligation to provide information, professional misconduct, malfeasance, contingency relationships, and other topics of professional concern.  We also will discuss Commissioner’s Rulings and Rules of the Board of Regents.  The course also will survey recent actions of the Office of Professional Discipline to illustrate the consequences of failure to observe and obey the provisions of the laws pertaining to Professional Engineering.
