Fire Protection Engineering - Foam Fire Extinguishing Systems

Lecturer:  Carl E. Gianino, PE

·         ·        History of Foam: Chemical Foams, Mechanical Foams

·         ·        Foam Terminology: Concentrate, Solution, Finished Foam

·         ·        Understanding the Hazard: Flammable Liquids, Hydrocarbons, Polar Solvents, Blended Fuels.

·         ·        Line Proportioners

·         ·        Aspirating and Non-Aspirating Devices

·         ·        Application Techniques

The objective of the class is to provide an understanding of how a
foam fire protection system is engineered and used to control and
extinguish flammable liquid fires.  The course will focus on designing a
system with respect to NFPA standards, with respect to foam concentrate
percentages, proper application techniques, and selecting the proper foam
concentrate for a given hazard.  At the conclusion of the class there
will be a 30-minute exam (with answers) and review provided.
