Computer Networks 1

The “Computer Networks 1” course will concentrate on the fundamentals of modern computer networks.  The presentation will be vendor-neutral.  The topics to be discussed will include:

Overview of Networking Basics – Connectivity from the Desktop PC to the Internet

Network Topologies – Ring, Star, Bus and Mesh Networks

OSI Reference Model – Discussion of the seven layers of the model and their relation to real networks

Ethernet Networks – IEEE standards and physical implementation

TCP/IP communications protocol – Usage in private networks and on the Internet

Network Administration and Security – Managing user accounts, controlling file access, protecting the network from external attack

Network Fault Tolerance – Keeping the network operational 24 x 7

Network Troubleshooting – Desktop utilities and websites
